What to do if Facebook makes unauthorized charges to your credit card

Discovering unauthorized charges on your credit card from Facebook can be alarming. This issue is becoming more common, but there are steps you can take to address it and recover your funds.

Step 1: Contact Your Credit Card Company

Your first step should be to report the charges to your credit card provider. Most companies have fraud protection policies in place and can assist with reversing unauthorized transactions. Be sure to:

  • Act quickly to dispute the charges.
  • Provide any evidence or documentation of the unauthorized activity.
  • Follow their instructions to secure your account.

Step 2: Report the Issue to Facebook

In addition to contacting your credit card company, it's crucial to report the unauthorized charges directly to Facebook. This helps them investigate the issue and potentially identify any security breaches. Here's how:

  1. Open Facebook.com on your computer.
  2. Click the downward-facing arrow in the top right of Facebook.
  3. Click Settings and Privacy.
  4. Click Settings.
  5. Scroll down the left-hand menu and click on Ads Payments.
  6. Click Get Help at the bottom of the screen.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to report your unauthorized charge.

When reporting the issue, be sure to provide as much detail as possible, including transaction IDs, dates, and any other relevant information. Request a refund and inquire about additional account security guidance to prevent future occurrences.
